Marasmium

Welcome to the home page of MarasmiumDev, where I publish my software and video game development projects.

"Marasmium" derives from the genus name of the Marasmius oreades mushroom and alludes to the forests of southern Nova Scotia wherein it forms fairy rings.

This page is mainly for the MarasmiumKit, a collection of bespoke game development libraries and tools which all my other projects under this handle will depend on. This collection will eventually include a general application development framework, an asset management library for reading and writing custom file formats of audio and animations, a library for reading and writing a custom "level" file format for self-contained games including entities, controls, game logic, and assets, and level file editor and player driver programs. See the Blog for details on the development of the MarasmiumKit project.

The MarasmiumKit is intended primarily for use by me on my own projects but is available under a public software license for free use by others. This main project will be built from the ground up, all in core Java code, with no third-party libraries because part of the satisfaction of my hobby work is the exercise of building the engine as well as games themselves. As a result, the code is intended to simplify and streamline the process of development of basic 2D PC games for me and may or may not appear elegant, modern, or straightforward depending on the tastes of the audience.

As this is a hobby project, worked on in short bursts between various academic and professional responsibilities, updates to the blog, social media, and website will appear sporadically at best. My identity can be verified online via PGP signatures attached to file uploads and messages, and the associated public key can be found on the Contact page.

Also on the contact page, see my GitHub profile for this project along with other social media profiles hosting source code, documentation, and demos of my projects.
